Zestoretic (Lisinopril)

Zestoretic – Diuretic 

Chemical combination of Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide is sold under the trade name of Zestoretic. It is a thiazide diuretic pill that helps to ease renal function. The drug also helps the body avoid absorption of too much of salt. Excess salt absorption could cause fluid retention in the body and Zestoretic helps in excretion of this excess water as well. 

It belongs to the group of drugs called as Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and helps to lower blood pressure secondary to excess fluid accumulation in the body. The drug has been manufactured and distributed by Merck &Co and has been approved by the FDA. It works by inhibiting the action of ACE in blood which again constricts narrows blood vessels to improve pressure within the blood vessels. 

How to use Zestoretic:

Zestoretic is to be taken exactly as prescribed by the physician and dosages would be calculated precisely to yield the best results from the drug. The drug acts best when consumed with water and not coupled with food. It is common to experience drowsiness owing to lower blood pressure levels with the drug and is best to be taken before bed time.

Diarrhoea, sweating and vomiting are unintended side effects of the drug, and it is important that the physician gets notified of these symptoms as soon as they occur. It is also desired to get blood pressure levels evaluated often. This medicine may be required to be continued for the entire life after being diagnosed with hypertension and should not be discontinued abruptly. Zestoretic works best when stored at room temperature, away from heat light and moisture. 

Precautions and contraindications:

The medicine is not to be used in known cases of congenital angioedema, in people who have problems in urination and in those who are prone for allergies to sulfa drugs. This medicine is to be discontinued immediately of pregnancy is suspected. The prescription is not to be clubbed with anti-diabetic drug and medicines that are contains aliskiren. 

Zestoretic is not to be used in people with known kidney disease, glaucoma, liver disorder, asthma, allergies, diabetes and gout. Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide could cause death in unborn baby and could harm the nursing infant.
